Updates about the 2 Proposals

Upcoming Trainer Meetings

Next week we start the first of the two tracks of Trainer Meetings.

  • November 13th (Sunday) at 13:00 Beijing time – Asia-Oceania Time Centralized. You can use this time converter to check the time in your zone.
  • November 19th (Saturday) at 14:30 New York Time – Occident Time Centralized. You can use this time converter to check the time in your zone.

Any trainer living anywhere is most welcome to attend either or both calls! In both tracks, we will be having the same conversation, with different trainers around the globe!

It will be an opportunity for trainers in different regions to come together to continue the conversations that were inspired by the June Regional Meetings on the issue of branding.  Those who participated in these meetings wanted more time to be in discussion with one another on deeper subjects such on what unites us as trainers globally? And the need to experience our capacity to sit in dialog with those that have different beliefs, lived experiences, positions on where we are at this time. We will have the presence of Just Outcomes team this time, who will help us with the methodology for this conversation.

Register here!

We really hope to have your presence!

Continuation of the conversation about Level One royalty sharing with the NKYTAs

As some of you know, there have been several recent conversations between KRI, IKYTA, NKYTAs and trainers (especially in Europe) about the royalty sharing of Level One program royalties.  KRI and IKYTA have been working on several long term and short term steps we can collectively take as this issue, and all of the associated issues that are also coming up, will require more conversations.  A separate email just recently went out to lead trainers in countries with royalty sharing – please email [email protected] if you didn’t get it.

Invitation to apply to serve on the Global Ethics Commission

The EPS Global Ethics Commission is an international and diverse body of Kundalini Yoga Teacher-Trainers, and other Professionals that serves our global Kundalini Yoga communities in terms of adjudicating serious complaints regarding KRI-certified teachers and trainers.  Read more about this role, and how to apply, here.

Three draft proposals for your review

The curriculum committee has worked on two draft proposals – about online Level One teacher trainings, and about the amount of pre-recorded content permitted in Level One and Level Two trainings.  And the Professional Development Committee is submitting a proposal for consideration regarding professional trainers who don’t want to become leads not needing a mentor.

All trainers in the ATA are invited to participate in reviewing them, suggesting edits, and eventually voting on them.  The first step is an online discussion, beginning now.  The curriculum committee will then take any suggestions from these dialogues under advisement and may (or may not) edit the proposals.  They will then be brought to the Sept regional trainer meetings, for face-to-face discussion about them.  The notes and recommendations from those discussions will be posted online for everyone to access.  One more round of online discussion will then happen, followed by an online vote.

Next Steps in the Trademark discussions

In early November, the ATA will continue the discussion on the trademark – but not to be looking to make a decision one way or another at that time.  For now, KRI will maintain the current options (to use Kundalini Yoga or Kundalini Yoga as taught by Yogi Bhajan®). The trainers who met in the June regional meetings asked that we keep these conversations moving, but it was also clear that deeper dialogue is still needed before making a decision.  In November Just Outcomes will come to support a deepening circle process for these discussions.

Monthly IKYTA Ethics & Professional Development Sessions

With the objective of bringing reflections, resources, and inspiration to teachers for the expansion of professional, social, and spiritual awareness, we decided to offer monthly moments of exchange on  themes we have received as pertinent in the current times we live in. These themes are related to ethics, building diversity, inclusion, equity, accessibility and a critical sense about our own role as teachers and as agents of change in our social environment.  The offerings will run from August through December 2022, with one session each month on diverse and inspiring topics.

Find out more and register here.

Using Sutra to improve your teacher trainings

Level One graduates and my friends Lorenz and Natasha have created an all-in-one online learning and community platform called Sutra – which hopefully you all know from our online policy discussions.  Though you can use the platform for so much more!

Their work comes from the heart and they’ve worked with hundreds of coaches, yoga teachers, and healers to help them create learning experiences that invite presence and meaningful connection online.

We’ve used Sutra for several years now, and Lorenz and Natasha have been great to work with.  They are always responsive when we have any needs.

They just launched a crowdfunding campaign to build a new kind of social platform designed around supporting a global ecosystem of transformational learning spaces.  They’re offering some pretty significant discounts on their platform to people who contribute.  Please take a look at their campaign page and if you feel inspired like I do, support them in any way that you feel called to: www.supportsutra.co

They’re also offering a free workshop next week called Tools for Transformational Teaching.  This is a great way to meet them and get a sense of the energy behind their work.  You can register here: https://connect.sutra.co/transformation

Updated Level One exams

As you know, passing an exam is a Level One certification requirement.  You may use your own version of an exam if you wish.  But KRI is making 3 versions available for you to choose from if you wish.  Two of these are minor updates to the in-class and the take-home exams that you are probably familiar with.  The 3rd uses the same questions as the in-class exam, but is formatted to be given in an interactive style.  This seems to be a great way, from a pedagogical perspective, to hold the exam, and the curriculum committee strongly encourages you to explore this method.  Written descriptions are provided about how to deliver this interactive exam, as well as a video here.  If you have any questions about how to can use this in your next Level One program, please email Amrit Singh to connect with a trainer uses used it before.

Regional Trainer Meetings online in June

This month all of the regions will have a very important Regional Meeting, that will include critical conversations, updates from KRI, and a look at a potential proposal. The primary focus of these meetings will be to take our next collective step forward in applying the previously adopted decision-making Principles and Values, for discussing what to do about our current world-wide trademark, “Kundalini Yoga as Taught by Yogi Bhajan.” We will use these upcoming regional trainer meetings and the Global Trainer Summit in September to try to avoid getting caught into a divisive, binary, decision-making exercise and instead use our previously agreed upon principles to expand the solution-space, embrace diverse opinions, and strive for creative, heart-centered solution(s) that strengthen our community rather than create more division.

At these Meetings in June, the participants will participate in a process that Just Outcomes assisted the Trainer Forum team in developing, and we truly hope to see you there and keep building together this community.
