KRI Teacher Training Privacy Policy

Last Modified: Dec 28, 2018

General

The Kundalini Research Institute d/b/a KRI (collectively referred to herein as “KRI,” “we” or “us”) respects the privacy of individuals (“students”) who enroll in KRI-certified teacher training programs in countries worldwide. This Privacy Policy describes the student information that we receive from Teacher Trainers (“Trainers”), and how that information is used, maintained and, in some cases, shared. In order for both Trainers and students to fully understand their rights, we encourage you to review this Privacy Policy. By licensing their teacher training programs through KRI, Trainers agree to this Privacy Policy. We may, from time to time, revise or update this Privacy Policy, which may include making changes to the way we collect, maintain and store information. If we make changes to this Privacy Policy, we will post notice of the modifications to the Privacy Policy on the www.kriteachings.org website. Please check the “Last Modified” legend at the top of this page to see when this Privacy Policy was last revised. Changes will become effective immediately. If you have questions or disagree with any of the terms of this Privacy Policy in its current form, or in the future, in any of its modified forms, please contact KRI for clarification at the email or phone number listed below under Contact.

What Information We Collect and How We Use It

Information Provided to Us
Course participants: As part of offering KRI-certified teacher training programs, we require that Trainers submit to us (via a secure online Portal) contact information about each student taking their course. The contact information required is: student name (first, middle and last legal names; and spiritual name), mailing address, phone number, email address, and birthday. This contact information will be connected to the course attended (who the trainers were, the city in which the training took place, and the dates of the training), and the participant’s certification status (in process, certified, or not certified).

Teacher Trainers: In addition to the information collected about course participants, we also require more information from all members of our Aquarian Trainer Academy (ATA). These include information about various events you attend, who your mentor is, and various applications, self-evaluations, mentor evaluations, interview reports, etc.

Website users: When you register for a Library of Teachings account, sign up for our newsletter, or sign up for blog notifications, you supply us with your name and email address.

When you purchase from our online store, we collect personal contact information such as your name and address, and the financial information necessary to complete your transaction, such as your credit card information.

How We Use Personal Information
We use the information collected about course participants to maintain a historical record of individuals certified as Kundalini Yoga teachers in Kundalini Yoga as taught by Yogi Bhajan®. Having this information allows us to provide customer service to these program graduates, such as reprinting certificates if needed, verifying qualifications, and confirming their status to third party yoga agencies such as the International Kundalini Yoga Teachers Association (IKYTA) or Yoga Alliance.

KRI may also contact attendees of teacher training programs about other KRI offerings they may find of interest. All recipients of such notices will have the ability to opt out (see below section for details) if they do not want to receive future communications of this type.

We maintain detailed records on our teacher trainers to track their progress through our Aquarian Trainer Academy.

We use data collected from our website to provide customer service, to improve our services and offerings, and to complete your transaction.

We also use the information we receive in aggregated and anonymized formats to produce reports on trends and statistics.

Your choices about how we use your personal information
You can opt out of marketing emails from KRI via an “unsubscribe” link that can be found at the bottom of these emails.

Some email communications are informational rather than marketing in nature, and cannot be opted out of.

Maintaining your personal information is necessary for maintaining your status in KRI’s global school. Asking KRI to not store your personal data, or to remove it at a later date, would result in your status (as a certified teacher, or teacher training) being revoked.

Ways you can access, control, and correct your personal information
We respect your right to access, correct, request deletion or request restriction of our usage of your personal information as required by applicable law. We also take steps to ensure that the personal information we collect is accurate and up to date.

  • • You have the right to know what personal information we maintain about you
  • • We will provide you with a copy of your personal information in a structured, commonly used and machine readable format on request
  • • If your personal information is incorrect or incomplete, you have the right to ask us to update it
  • • You can ask us to delete or restrict how we use your personal information, but this right is determined by applicable law and will impact your status with KRI as a teacher or teacher trainer.

If you are a teacher trainer, you can see, review and change most of your personal information by signing in to your trainer portal account. Please, update your personal information immediately if it changes or is inaccurate.

Anyone else can request a copy of your personal data by contacting KRI at [email protected].

We will honor any statutory right you might have to access, modify or erase your personal information. If you request that we stop processing some or all of your personal information or you withdraw (where applicable) your consent for our use or disclosure of your personal information for purposes set out in this privacy notice, we would also withdraw any certification.

How we might share your personal information
We will not share, rent, sell or otherwise disclose any of the personally identifiable information that we collect, with exception of the following:

  • • We share information about certified teachers with the International Kundalini Yoga Teacher’s Association (IKYTA).
  • • Information about a member of the ATA will be shared with that person’s mentor, and anyone serving on an interview team asked to interview them.
  • • In the event of an ethics complaint to the independent Office of Ethics and Professional Standards, we will share data with that office.
  • • Information about course attendance could be shared, upon request, to the teacher trainer team of that course.
  • • We may be legally obligated to disclose information about students to the government or to third parties under certain circumstances, such as to respond to a subpoena, court order or other legal process. We reserve the right to release information that we collect to law enforcement or other government officials, as we, in our sole and absolute discretion, deem necessary or appropriate.

How long we keep your personal information
We will keep the personal data about teacher trainers and attendees at all KRI licensed courses indefinitely. It is necessary for us to always be able to reference who has taken our courses and when they took them.

We keep names and email addresses of people who sign up for our newsletter, blog notification service, or who register for the Library of Teachings until the user requests to be removed from that particular list.

We store personal contact and financial data of people purchasing from our online store for 7 years.

How do we protect your personal information
To help protect the privacy of data, when personally identifiable information is submitted through the online Trainer Portal, we use technology that encrypts the information the instant it leaves the sender’s computer or device, through transit to our server. The information is then securely stored in our database using high level secure database software. This includes measures we have taken to protect data we receive against unauthorized access.

Please be aware that despite our best efforts and the guidelines outlined in this Privacy Policy, no data transmission over the Internet or encryption method can be guaranteed to be 100% secure.
KRI’s website and databases run on software, hardware and network systems, any component of which may at some time experience problems or a breach of security beyond our control.

California Privacy Rights
Under California law, a California resident with whom we have an established relationship has the right to request certain information with respect to the types of personal information we have shared with third parties for their direct marketing purposes, and the identities of those third parties, within the immediately preceding calendar year, subject to certain exceptions. All requests for such information must be in writing and sent to us at the mailing address set forth below.

Access from Outside North America
For students living outside of North America, information that we collect about them will be transferred to servers inside North America and maintained indefinitely, which may involve the transfer of information out of countries located in the European Economic Area.

Governing Law
Any dispute over privacy or the terms contained in this Privacy Policy will be governed by the law of the New Mexico, USA.
