Ethics and Professional Standards

The Office of Ethics & Professional Standards & Conscious Conflict Resolution

Being a Kundalini Yoga Teacher is a sacred responsibility.  A yoga teacher can be privileged to assist students on their unique journeys to self-awareness.  Just like in other professions, Kundalini Yoga Teachers need to be held to a high ethical standard and students must be assured of a safe and supportive experience.

KRI takes this responsibility very seriously and has instituted the KRI and IKYTA Code of Ethics and Professional Standards of a Kundalini Yoga Teacher.  This code applies to all Kundalini Yoga Teachers and Teacher Trainers at all levels.  No one is exempt from these ethical and professional standards.  Currently, KRI works with an independent Office of Ethics & Professional Standards & Conscious Conflict Resolution (EPS), which is not funded or controlled by KRI in any way, that investigates every complaint and is authorized to take actions up to and including that a Teacher can no longer teach Kundalini Yoga as taught by Yogi Bhajan® or represent KRI, IKYTA, 3HO or NKYTAs and a Teacher Trainer can no longer license with KRI to participate in or run Teacher Teacher Training Programs.

Using a methodology outlined by Yogi Bhajan, successfully applied in dozens of instances around the world, the activities of the EPS office is an important safeguard for all students of Kundalini Yoga. EPS investigates Student and Teacher Complaints and proposes resolutions for circumstances found to be in breach of the Code of Ethics.  The approach is never punitive or retaliatory, but is fair and fact-based, serving to protect, uplift, educate, and inspire.

If you would like to confidentially file a complaint with the Office of Ethics & Professional Standards & Conscious Conflict Resolution, you can do so here.

Our goal is to protect all Students, Teachers, and Teacher Trainers in our Kundalini Yoga communities. The fact that all KRI Certified Teachers and Teacher Trainers are held to this standard is a strong reason for Students to choose classes offered by KRI-Certified Instructors and KRI-Certified Teacher Training programs.

If you are witness to, are experiencing a problem, or if you feel unsure about something that is happening, please contact EPS to discuss the situation.  We want to build a community where everyone is safe to speak about their experiences and concerns.  We can fulfill the vision of Yogi Bhajan and meet the highest ethical standards when we work together.
