Trainer relicensing

A valid ATA license will be required for you to be an automatically recognized voter in the upcoming SSSC elections (if you are a lead or professional) and is required if you plan to remain an active trainer in the ATA between July 2022 and June 2023.

One way that we demonstrate our commitment to upholding our professional standards is by renewing and completing the licensing agreement. This ensures our community’s integrity, helps to keep everyone safe and expands our impact.

Research Report

As shared earlier, KRI will be using each of training we run as a laboratory to try out new pedagogy ideas.  We will then share the results with all of you, so we are all learning and improving together (and we also plan to have a wiki-style pedagogy area of our trainer website so this grows to be a peer-to-peer sharing process as well).  The first of these reports, from a Level Two Authentic Relationships course on how we tried to increase the sangat consciousness in the training, can be found here.

Regional Trainer Meetings online in June

This month all of the regions will have a very important Regional Meeting, that will include critical conversations, updates from KRI, and a look at a potential proposal. The primary focus of these meetings will be to take our next collective step forward in applying the previously adopted decision-making Principles and Values, for discussing what to do about our current world-wide trademark, “Kundalini Yoga as Taught by Yogi Bhajan.” We will use these upcoming regional trainer meetings and the Global Trainer Summit in September to try to avoid getting caught into a divisive, binary, decision-making exercise and instead use our previously agreed upon principles to expand the solution-space, embrace diverse opinions, and strive for creative, heart-centered solution(s) that strengthen our community rather than create more division.

At these Meetings in June, the participants will participate in a process that Just Outcomes assisted the Trainer Forum team in developing, and we truly hope to see you there and keep building together this community.

The Global Advisory Committee serves the Academy through visioning the Trainer Summits and by stewarding the process of expansion and change in the Academy through the proposal and voting process. White-Bodied affinity group zoom gatherings

“It is not our differences that divide us. It is our inability to recognize, accept, and celebrate those differences,” Audre Lorde. 

In these times when polarization is everywhere, we can use our yogic knowledge to further the creation of a truly welcoming Kundalini Yoga community, where we can truly find The One not by minimizing our differences, but embracing and understanding them. What would it take to collectively create an environment of equality and validation and explore the themes and steps toward a more inclusive yoga community? Developing the muscle to discuss identities, intersections and our various privileges is a way that we can value and support our diverse global perspectives. At KRI we want to encourage White-Bodied people to gather together and explore books, videos, and links to educate oneself and become versed in holding space for others, honoring and celebrating our differences.

Kundalini Beyond Borders is an initiative by KRI & IKYTA to provide grants to KRI certified Kundalini Yoga Teachers who are bringing Kundalini Yoga to an underserved population. KRI is committed to ensuring that any person who wishes to experience Kundalini Yoga has access, feels welcome, and feels safe in the practice. This grant program is designed to support this commitment by providing grants to teachers expanding the impact of Kundalini Yoga into those populations with limited or no access currently.

KRI Staff also being in the ATA

KRI has many staff members who are also members of the Aquarian Trainer Academy. Some of them also serve as translators for programs around the globe. You may have opportunities to work with them in many different settings which KRI hopes will enrich everyone’s experience. And much the same way that Hari Charn Kaur and Amrit have traveled and occasionally served in different programs with no conflict of interest, KRI feels that the administrators can also serve in many different roles – being open to support all program equally, and being recused in certain circumstance if needed. We are open to any concerns or feedback you have about any of the KRI team and how we serve.

Coming VICE documentary

We’ve received word that the VICE program, “True Believers”,featuring the SSSC and 3HO, will begin airing on 11 April 2022. While we have not yet seen the show ourselves, sources have indicated that the coverage of our organizationsand the practiceof Kundalini Yogais likely to be slanted and may paintan unbalanced picture of our communityand practices. We have prepared some basic information here to assist you, if needed, in dealing with the impact of this program.

Diversity Equity & Inclusion

KRI’s goal is to have our Level One graduates, members of the ATA, KRI’s staff and KRI’s board of directors to be fully representative of the communities we serve – and that means representative across all dimensions (such as race, gender and sexual identity, geography, socio-economic status, education level, etc.). We aren’t there yet, and so we need to keep inquiring about why. Why are there so few trainers of color? Why are the percentages of Level 1 graduates of color less than in the broader community? Until we can understand and address these issues, we won’t be as effective as we need to be in sharing the technology of Kundalini Yoga and Meditation. A piece of this is our annual demographic survey – which will be part ofthe trainer licensing process this summer.

In October 2019 a new policy governing the distribution of L2 manuals in the English language and the available translation was approved. Its implementation for the L2 English manuals started by February 2020. You can read the complete Policy in HERE.

Diversity Equity & Inclusion

We continue to look at our welcoming nature, how to be more welcoming and inclusive to communities of color around the world. As a global community, this is a complex but much needed exploration.  Our 2^nd annual ATA demographic survey will be held as part of the relicensing process this June; measuring how diverse are we and how can we grow in our awareness. Vital Source access issue

KRI has heard of a few trainers being locked out of their VitalSource accounts (for access to the digital versions of the Level One and Level Two teacher training manuals) for “suspicious activity.” 

If this happens to you, you will have to contact VitalSource directly to regain access.  We aren’t 100% sure what is causing it, but it may be attempts to print the entire book.
